I found a great deal on a. I do not have an action wrench or barrel vise but yet didn’t want to risk twisting the receiver trying to get it apart without the proper tools. After staring at it for an hour that didn’t get it loose either! I decided to walk away and shop for a barrel while I decided what to do about getting it apart. It has the proprietary coating on it which tells me it was from a XCR. Even though it’s a Magnum profile, I’m going to take it to the shop and cut it down to Given what I paid for the “new” barrel, I decided that my.

Also some letters were left out if there was a chance of misidentifying a date. Also they jockeyed year letters to a new starting point in If you find marks on the underside of the barrel, they will more than likely be fitters or assembly marks, which mean nothing as to dating the firearm. To find general manufacturing dates it may be best to go to the Blue Book of Gun Values, which does give manufacturing dates of most models.
An issue that people need to be aware of, is that many Remington firearms such as the series of shotguns can have their barrels easily changed or replaced. So, if the barrel is not original to the specific firearm in question the date code may be meaningless. Also if there is a custom or aftermarket barrel installed it will not have these factory codes. Confounding the issue a bit may be the fact that Remington Arms stamps their final inspector stamps and assembly product codes in the immediate area of the date codes.
So it may be difficult at times to determine exactly what is what. With that in mind, and considering a lot of variables. If a specific Remington firearm has a serial number, Remington Customer Service is always the first source which should be checked for date of manufacture as they would be the definitive source. There are no publically accessible databases for Remington serial numbers. With the hundreds of different Remington models produced over the past years, it can sometimes be difficult to determine the age of your firearm.

To this day, the company offers a very comprehensive selection of rifles, shotguns, and ammunition. At first exactly the same as the Springfield Armory rifle, it then evolved as a time saving and cost cutting measure into the A3 which used some sheet metal stamped parts instead of forgings; parts like stock bands and the magazine assembly. This sight, an adjustable peep, is similar to the sight used on the M1 Carbine. Another change made was the use of a 2-groove barrel instead of the usual 4-groove.
Tests showed the 2-groove to be about the equal of the 4-groove in accuracy, so it was accepted as an alternate. Thus, there is no high or low serial number question.
Jan 01, · Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle [or shotgun] on the left side, just forward of the receiver; the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture.
Heavy barrel versions with laminated stocks like the Model SPS varmint are available for varmint hunting. In , catering to long range varmint and target shooters, Remington introduced the 5-R “Mil-Spec” as a small-quantity production run stainless steel rifle, matched to a non-adjustable H-S Precision stock with an aluminum bedding block with two forward sling swivel studs. The “Mil-Spec” refers solely to the 5-R rifling profile designed by Boots Obermeyer and used in the single broach-cut barrels he produces for use in the M24, M40, and other sniper rifle systems.
The contour of the hammer-forged production Remington barrel is much thinner than that used in the M24 and M40 rifle systems. Remington produced a ML muzzleloading rifle from onward. The EtronX electronic primer ignition system was implemented in the Model EtronX introduced in , though this model was a commercial failure and ceased production in , along with the Etronx primers themselves.
Both rifles also come optionally in a Tactical Weapons System TWS package, complete with telescopic sights, a bipod, and carrying case. The rifle was chambered for the. The P has a 26″ barrel, an aluminium block bedding in its stock, which is made by HS Precision.

Making a Remington Action? Hey guys, I’d like to make a Remington action “from scratch”. The point of this project is to learn about gunsmithing, and eventually end up with a rifle that I can display, and maybe take to a range once. I understand that if I wanted a rifle fast, it would be both cheaper and easier to just go out to a gun store and select a rifle. By “from scratch” I mean machine every part of the action from stock.
For safety reasons, and due to a lack of tooling, I would send the action out for all heat-treating and blueing operations.
When Remington introduced the Model in , advertising it as “the world’s strongest bolt action,” sales were swift and immediate. Its good looks, light recoil, and strong accuracy for the money, combined with Winchester’s move to a push-feed action in , put the on a path to dominance.
Thu Oct 11, Fri Sep 12, 9: Mine are all old ones, because that’s the baragains I’ve found. But I’ve seen, handled, and shot the newer ones, and I’m of the opinion that new ones have better wood, checkering definitely better checkering , fit, polish, and finish than the old ones, but that’s comparing the old ones which were sold by the millions at the lowest price they could with the new ones that I don’t think are sold in nearly so great numbers.
The new ones are pricey guns, and Remington puts the shine to them to justify the price. This discussion doesn’t cover the newer matte finished guns.
